Frequently Asked Questions
How does delivery, returns and contact work?
UK delivery is free on orders over £50, with a flat rate below that. Orders ship within one working day from our Cotswolds workshop, packed in recyclable materials. Returns are accepted within 30 days for a full refund, with no restocking fees. If something arrived damaged or you need help choosing, email hello@backyardbliss.co.uk and we usually reply within a few hours.
Do you carry a literal heron statue?
Not in this cast-resin range. The long-legged wading bird shape tends to be a metal stake piece, and we carry those seasonally rather than year-round. The five pieces here are the bird-shaped pond-side pieces we keep in stock: Kingfisher, Dove Planter, Birdbath, Robins, Fairy on Bird. Drop us a line through the contact form if you want a metal heron specifically and we can check stock.
Will a heron-style statue keep real herons away from a pond?
Not reliably. Real herons learn that a static decoy is not a rival within a few visits, so the deterrent effect is short-lived. The pieces here are not sold as decoys, they are decorative pond-side bird shapes. If you have a real heron problem with pond fish, mesh netting and a tighter pond margin work better than any statue.
Which piece works best as an actual birdbath?
The Bird in Hands Birdbath is the working piece in this range. Hands cupped to hold water for visiting garden birds, sized to sit on a flat paving pad three or four paces back from the pond. Empty the bowl before a hard frost so water does not freeze and lift the rim, and refill with a watering can in dry weather.
How well does the Kingfisher's colour read in shade?
The bright blue back and orange breast read well in dappled shade beside a wildflower strip; the contrast against green planting catches the eye. In deep shade the colour mutes, so the front edge of a pond bank with morning sun is the better spot. A soft brush once a year clears pollen from the blue and keeps it saturated.
What can I plant in the Dove Planter?
Anything low-growing that softens the grey of the dove body. A trailing sedum, a small alpine, a clump of ivy left to drape over the edge. The planting hollow is shallow, so deep-rooted plants do not suit; aim for shallow-root plants that read against the soft-grey paint.
How do these pieces compare with the broader bird ranges?
The strict bird shapes have their own ranges. The robin, peacock and owl ranges each gather a specific bird. For the modern-form and metal-form pieces, see modern bird garden ornaments and metal bird garden ornaments. The bird feeders and baths range carries the working pieces birds actually use.
