About Wall Garden Ornaments

Wall Garden Ornaments: The Wall-Mounted Range

Wall garden ornaments at Backyard Bliss is a one-piece range right now: the Large Wall Mounted Bear Head, the only wall-mounted sculpt we currently carry. A heavy cast-stone bear head with deep-set eyes and a muzzle in deep relief, sized for a brick or render wall at face height. Two screw fixings into wall plugs hold it firmly. We are honest about the range being small; if you came looking for trellis ornaments, gargoyles or wall planters, we do not currently stock those either.

The Large Wall Mounted Bear Head

The Large Wall Mounted Bear Head is the only piece in this range. Reconstituted cast-stone construction, matte finish, with the bear's muzzle and brow worked in deep enough relief that the face reads at a few paces and the eyes pick up shadow across the day. Two screw-fixing points on the back accept standard wall plugs; use stainless or zinc-plated screws into brick or render. Heavy enough that you want two people lifting it into position. Frost-proof and made for outdoor life year-round.

Honest about the wall range

A proper wall-ornament range would carry trellis pieces, wall planters, gargoyles, sundials, garden masks, hanging birdbaths and themed wall plaques. We carry one wall piece. We would rather flag this than dress the range up as something it is not. The Bali-Inspired Full Face Set in statue head garden ornaments is also wall-mountable (it carries hanging fixings on the back), so worth a look if a single wall piece is not enough. Otherwise, the wider catalogue sits in free-standing pieces.

Where to mount a wall piece

Face height, on a clear stretch of brick or render wall. Between 1.6 and 1.8 metres from the ground puts the piece at eye level for an adult walking past, which is where the carved relief reads best. Above a patio seating spot, beside a garden door, on a wall the close-pass route brings visitors past, or above a sheltered bench all work. Skip mounting too high or in a tucked-away corner where the eye never finds it. The bear's watchful quality only works if visitors meet his gaze.

Mounting, fixings and weather

Two screw fixings on the back accept standard wall plugs into brick or render. Stainless or zinc-plated screws stop rust working through the wall and staining the cast-stone piece over a few wet winters. Drill, plug, lift and tighten with two people. The piece weathers slightly over years rather than seasons, picking up a soft patina especially around the deeper shadow lines of the muzzle and eyes. A soft brush across the carved detail twice a year keeps lichen and pollen out of the deepest lines.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does delivery, returns and contact work?

UK delivery is free on orders over £50, with a flat rate below that. Orders ship within one working day from our Cotswolds workshop, packed in recyclable materials. Returns are accepted within 30 days for a full refund, with no restocking fees. If something arrived damaged or you need help choosing, email hello@backyardbliss.co.uk and we usually reply within a few hours.

Is there really only one wall piece?

Yes, honestly. The Large Wall Mounted Bear Head is the only dedicated wall-mounted piece in the catalogue. The Bali-Inspired Full Face Set in statue head garden ornaments also carries hanging fixings on the back, so worth a look if a single piece is not enough. We are honest about the range being small rather than padding it with pieces that do not wall-mount cleanly.

What about gargoyles, plaques and sundials?

None in stock right now. We do not currently carry gargoyles, traditional wall plaques, garden masks, sundials, hanging birdbaths or trellis-mounted pieces. If we add wall pieces in future they will sit here. For now, the free-standing equivalents (heavy stone heads, free-standing sundials elsewhere in the garden world) are where to look.

Will the bear head ruin my wall?

Not if you fix it properly. Drill the two holes to the wall-plug specification, push the plugs in flush, use stainless or zinc-plated screws (not bright-steel, which rusts and stains the wall over a few wet winters), and tighten the screws so the back of the sculpt sits firmly against the wall. The weight loads through the screws into the masonry; a brick or render wall handles it without issue.

Can I mount it on a fence?

Not recommended for the Large Wall Mounted Bear Head; the cast-stone weight needs masonry behind it. A wooden fence loses grip on the fixings over years of wet British weather. If a fence-mounted piece is what you need, the closest in-catalogue alternative is the bird feeders that mount to a fence post (browse bird feeders and baths) or the free-standing bear pieces in bear garden ornaments.

What height should I mount it at?

Face height. Between 1.6 and 1.8 metres from the ground puts the bear's eyes at eye level for an adult walking past, which is where the carved relief and the deep-set eyes read best. The piece loses its watchful quality if mounted too high above the close-pass viewer. Above a patio bench, beside a garden door, or on a wall the path brings visitors past are the natural spots.

Will it weather over time?

Yes, slowly and gracefully. Reconstituted cast stone picks up a soft patina over a few wet winters, especially in the deeper shadow lines of the muzzle and eyes. Most owners welcome this as it deepens the natural-stone look. A soft brush across the carved detail twice a year keeps lichen and pollen from settling too thickly. Skip the power wash; it lifts the matte surface and leaves a paler patch.
