Frequently Asked Questions
How does delivery, returns and contact work?
UK delivery is free on orders over £50, with a flat rate below that. Orders ship within one working day from our Cotswolds workshop, packed in recyclable materials. Returns are accepted within 30 days for a full refund, with no restocking fees. If something arrived damaged or you need help choosing, email hello@backyardbliss.co.uk and we usually reply within a few hours.
Is this the only wall-mounted bear you carry?
Yes, the Large Wall Mounted Bear Head is the only wall bear piece in the catalogue right now. If a different size or finish is what you actually need we do not have it. The free-standing bear pieces (Bronze Bear w/Cub, Mother Bear and Cub) sit in bear garden ornaments and are the alternative if a wall mount is not essential.
What height should I mount it at?
Face height. Between 1.6 and 1.8 metres from the ground, at the height where you would naturally meet eye contact as you walk past. The bear's eyes and the depth of the muzzle relief are designed to read at that close pass. Mount it too high (above two metres) and you lose the watchful quality the piece carries; mount it too low and the proportions look uncomfortable.
How do I fix it to the wall?
Two screw fixings on the back of the sculpt accept standard wall plugs into brick or render. Use stainless or zinc-plated screws (not bright-steel) so they do not rust through the wall into the bear over a few wet winters. Drill the holes to the plug specification, push the plugs in flush, lift the bear (two people; it is heavy) and tighten the screws so the back sits firmly against the wall.
Can I mount it on a wooden fence?
Not recommended. The piece is heavy reconstituted cast stone and a wooden fence does not hold the load reliably over years (especially in wet British weather, where the timber slowly softens around the fixings). Brick, render or a solid masonry wall is what the screw-and-plug system is designed for. If you only have a wooden fence, the free-standing bear pieces in bear garden ornaments are the practical alternative.
Will the cast stone weather over time?
Slowly and gracefully. The cast-stone surface picks up a soft patina over a few wet winters, especially in the deeper shadow lines around the muzzle and eyes, which most owners welcome as it deepens the natural-stone look. A soft brush across the carved detail twice a year keeps lichen and pollen out of the deepest lines without scrubbing the patina off. Skip the power wash.
What pairs well with the bear head on a patio?
Free-standing woodland pieces in the planting around the patio. The Bronze Bear w/Cub at the foot of a tree behind a patio bench, the Mother Bear and Cub on a flagstone in the corner, and a Badger and Badger Cub at the front of a fern bed all read together as a woodland-themed group with the wall bear watching over them. Browse woodland animals for the wider grouping.
