About Owl Garden Ornaments & Statues

Owl Garden Ornaments: Owl Family, Wise Owl and Owl on Log

Owl garden ornaments at Backyard Bliss is the still-eyed perching range, pieces shaped and sized for a fencepost cap, a gatepost top or a tree-edge corner where a real tawny would sit and watch. Three dedicated owl pieces lead the range, the Large Owl Family Statue, the Wise Owl with Mini Owls and the Owl on Log, alongside five companion bird pieces that share the same near-the-trees placement. All cast resin with painted finishes built for outdoor weather.

The owl pieces

The Large Owl Family Statue is the anchor: a mother owl with two mini owls tucked against her, painted in soft browns and creams with the wide eyes that owl pieces live or die on. Sized for a gatepost top or a wide flat fence cap where the family group reads clearly from a few paces back. The Wise Owl with Mini Owls is a stockier solo-and-pair piece in similar tones, suited to a fencepost or a low flat stone at the edge of a planting bed. The Owl on Log is the casual piece, an owl perched on a stylised branch fragment, ready to sit on a tree stump cut to thirty-odd centimetres or on a wide step at the back door.

The companion bird pieces

Five other pieces sit in the range alongside the strict owls and share the tree-edge feel: the Colourful Kingfisher (a perched stake piece for the front of a wildflower strip), the Grey Dove Planter (a soft-grey dove with a shallow planting hollow), the Bird in Hands Birdbath (a working shallow-basin piece), the Radiant Robins (a bright pair for a pot rim) and the Fairy on Bird (a small bronze-effect piece for a windowsill or potting bench). They give the range the small-bird company an owl perch would actually have.

Where to perch an owl piece

A real tawny chooses height and cover: a fencepost cap with an apple tree nearby, a gatepost in the shade of a holly, the wide flat top of an old gate pier. The cast-resin owl pieces want the same logic. The Large Owl Family Statue sits best on a flat surface wide enough to hold the family group without overhang, twenty-five centimetres across or more. The Wise Owl with Mini Owls suits a single post-cap or a low flat stone with planting close behind. The Owl on Log reads cleanest on a real tree stump or a wide weathered step where the log shape ties into the surroundings.

Cast resin and a wet British year

All the owl pieces are cast resin, frost-proof, painted in colour built for outdoor sun. The brown and cream tones hold well through several seasons; soft tones fade less visibly than bright colours, so the Family and the Wise Owl age gracefully. A soft brush across the head detail once or twice a year keeps pollen out of the eyes. The companion bird pieces (Kingfisher, Dove Planter, Birdbath, Robins, Fairy on Bird) follow the same care: a brush across the painted detail and an empty basin on the Birdbath before a hard frost.

For single-bird bird shapes nearby, see robin garden ornaments and peacock garden ornaments. For the silhouette and metal-finish groupings of the same companion pieces, see modern bird garden ornaments and metal bird garden ornaments. For the working feeders and baths real birds use, bird feeders and baths. For the wider birds catalogue, every bird piece sits there.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does delivery, returns and contact work?

UK delivery is free on orders over £50, with a flat rate below that. Orders ship within one working day from our Cotswolds workshop, packed in recyclable materials. Returns are accepted within 30 days for a full refund, with no restocking fees. If something arrived damaged or you need help choosing, email hello@backyardbliss.co.uk and we usually reply within a few hours.

Which owl piece is the right focal point?

The Large Owl Family Statue is the natural focal-point piece in the range: the mother-and-mini-owls group reads clearly from a few paces back and holds a gatepost top or a wide fence-cap year-round. The Wise Owl with Mini Owls is a stockier solo-and-pair alternative for a single post cap. The Owl on Log is a casual perched piece for a tree stump or a wide step, less of a focal point and more of a close-pass detail.

Will an owl ornament keep real birds out of the garden?

Not reliably. Real songbirds and pigeons learn within a few visits that a static decoy is not a hunting threat, so the deterrent effect is short-lived. These pieces are sold as garden sculpture rather than as bird-scarers. If you have a pigeon problem on a vegetable patch, mesh netting and a fluttering line work better than any owl statue.

Where does the Owl on Log sit best?

On a real tree stump cut to thirty-odd centimetres tall, ideally one with a flat top and a bit of weather on it so the painted log of the piece ties into the surroundings. Second-best is a wide weathered step, a back-door threshold or a flat-topped log pile edge. The pose reads weakest on open lawn where there is nothing for the log shape to ground against.

How big is the Large Owl Family Statue?

The mother owl carries two mini owls tucked against her body, sized so the group reads clearly at three or four paces. It wants a flat surface at least twenty-five centimetres across so the family does not overhang, a wide gatepost top or a flat fence pier suits well. Full dimensions and current price are on the product page.

Will the eye detail fade outdoors?

Not visibly. UV-stable paint holds the eye-and-feather detail through several seasons. The brown and cream tones across the owl pieces are colours that fade less visibly than bright primaries, so the pieces age gracefully. A soft brush across the head once or twice a year keeps pollen out of the eye sockets and the colour stays saturated.

What pairs well with an owl piece in the garden?

Smaller songbird shapes a few paces away on a pot rim or a planter edge: the robin range carries the Radiant Robins pair, the metal bird garden ornaments range carries the Kingfisher, Dove Planter and Birdbath in metal-effect finishes. For the wider bird catalogue, browse birds.
