Concrete Garden Ornaments: Reconstituted Cast-Stone Range
Frequently Asked Questions
How does delivery, returns and contact work?
UK delivery is free on orders over £50, with a flat rate below that. Orders ship within one working day from our Cotswolds workshop, packed in recyclable materials. Returns are accepted within 30 days for a full refund, with no restocking fees. If something arrived damaged or you need help choosing, email hello@backyardbliss.co.uk and we usually reply within a few hours.
Are these pieces pure concrete?
Not exactly. Pure concrete on its own is too brittle for ornaments with fine detail at the ears, paws and faces. The pieces here are reconstituted cast stone, which is cement bound with crushed natural stone for a denser, less porous result. The finished read is the matt cement-grey that buyers searching "concrete" usually picture.
Will the cast stone crack in a hard frost?
No, when sited correctly. Reconstituted cast stone handles wet UK winters and named-storm gales without issue. The detail at ears and paws survives repeated freeze-thaw cycles provided the piece is sat on a drained pad rather than directly on sodden mulch. A flat slab, a flagstone, or a compacted gravel bed underneath does the job.
How long until the surface picks up moss and lichen?
A season or two in a damp or shaded border. The porous cast-stone surface is exactly what moss and lichen need. A north-facing position under a climbing rose softens faster, a south-facing sunny border stays pale for longer. The patina is the point of choosing this material rather than a painted resin piece.
Can I move the bigger pieces myself?
Plan it. The XXL Balinese Buddha at one metre tall and the Grand Garden Elephant at 1.2 metres need two adults and a sack trolley. The Gorilla Silver Back and the Pair of Sitting Lions are mid-weight, manageable for two. The Sleeping Spaniel, the Sleeping Cat and the Hippo Statue lift comfortably for one person. Check delivery-day path width before you order the big pieces.
Do I need to seal cast stone?
No. A sealant fights the weathering that gives the material its character. The honest care routine is a stiff brush in April once a year to clear any moss past taste, and a sponge wash if a piece sits beside a road that picks up grime. Skip the power wash; it strips the patina the stone has been gathering.
How do these compare with painted resin pieces?
Different feel. Painted resin pieces are lighter, hold their colour for years, and travel better through delivery. Cast stone is heavier, softens over time, and is the long-term piece. For dogs in cast stone specifically, see the stone dog garden statues range. For cats, the stone cat garden statues range.
