Frequently Asked Questions
How does delivery, returns and contact work?
UK delivery is free on orders over £50, with a flat rate below that. Orders ship within one working day from our Cotswolds workshop, packed in recyclable materials. Returns are accepted within 30 days for a full refund, with no restocking fees. If something arrived damaged or you need help choosing, email hello@backyardbliss.co.uk and we usually reply within a few hours.
Is the River Otter the only otter piece you carry?
Yes, the River Otter Ornament is the only otter shape in the catalogue right now. We are honest about that rather than padding the range with otter-adjacent pieces. If you want more woodland-mammal variety to sit alongside it, the woodland animals range covers badgers, bears, hedgehogs and squirrels that pair well with an otter at the front of a fern bed.
What size is the River Otter Ornament?
It is a low-profile slim piece, head lifted and back arched, sized for the front of a fern bed or the margin of a pond. Heavy enough to sit on its own without pegging, light enough to lift and reposition when planting changes. Exact dimensions and current price are on the product page.
Can it live beside a pond all year?
Yes. Cast resin and frost-proof, painted in a UV-stable warm-brown finish that handles wet weather and a winter freeze without cracking. Pond margins are its natural spot. Set it on a flagstone if your soil stays soggy through winter, the slab keeps the base out of sodden mulch and stops algae settling against the painted surface.
Does it actually look like a real otter?
Close enough at three or four paces. The piece is stylised rather than anatomically precise: arched back, lifted head, curling tail, the kind of shape that suggests movement against the planting. Up close you will see the cast-resin surface and the painted finish; from a few paces back the silhouette looks like an otter at the edge of water.
How do I care for it through the year?
Very little needed. A soft brush over the painted detail twice a year keeps pollen, pond debris and dust from settling into the surface. Tip standing water off the base before a hard frost. If the piece sits in deep mulch through winter, lift it onto a paver once or twice across the season so the base does not pick up green algae from sodden contact.
Which pieces pair well with the otter?
The woodland animals range pairs naturally: a Badger and Badger Cub at the base of a tree behind the otter, a Hedgehog and Baby on a flagstone beside it, a Bronze Bear w/Cub set further back. For pond-side working pieces (birdbaths, feeders) that share the same damp-corner setting, browse bird feeders and baths.
