Frequently Asked Questions
How does delivery, returns and contact work?
UK delivery is free on orders over £50, with a flat rate below that. Orders ship within one working day from our Cotswolds workshop, packed in recyclable materials. Returns are accepted within 30 days for a full refund, with no restocking fees. If something arrived damaged or you need help choosing, email hello@backyardbliss.co.uk and we usually reply within a few hours.
Is the piece actually made of glass?
No. The piece in the range right now is cast stone with a soft stone-effect palette, sized for a shelf or windowsill rather than the lawn. The range is the light-catching, shelf-scale edit of the Hielan' coo; the range will grow as small-batch glass-effect and jewel-toned Highland cow figures come through. For now, the cast-stone piece is the figure here.
Can I keep it outside, or is it indoor only?
Either. The cast-stone surface is frost-proof, so a sheltered porch ledge under the eaves or a covered veranda shelf handles a British winter without cracking. The 10kg weight stops it sliding in a draught. Indoors, it stays clean and dry on a windowsill, a hall console or a dresser shelf without any fuss.
What size and weight should I plan for?
30cm tall, around 10kg in reconstituted cast stone. Heavy enough to sit without wobbling on a shelf or sill. Light enough to lift and reposition when the seasons shift, without a trolley. Check the shelf or sill can take 10kg before you place it, and use a felt pad or folded tea-towel under the base to protect polished wood from the cast-stone footprint.
Where does the light-catching finish look best?
South-facing in winter, east or south-facing in the warmer months. A conservatory sideboard near a south-facing window catches the low winter sun in late afternoon; a covered veranda shelf catches morning light if it faces east. A kitchen windowsill with a few terracotta pots works year-round. Avoid an east-facing windowsill in deep winter if the cow is sharing the ledge with other ornaments, because morning condensation can collect under a stone base.
Does it need any seasonal care?
Very little. A soft brush and warm water once a year keeps the soft palette clear and the fringe detail readable. Skip the power wash, it's rough on any painted finish and the figure isn't lawn-scale anyway. A felt pad or folded tea-towel under the base protects polished wood shelves over time.
How does the shelf piece sit beside the lawn-scale and wooden Highland edits?
This is the cool, shelf-scale ornament. The lawn-scale pieces in large Highland cow garden ornaments sit out in the open with breathing room around them. The warm porch-step look in wooden Highland cow garden ornaments is the rustic-croft piece. The festive dressing in Christmas Highland cow garden ornaments is the December-only edit on the same coo.
