Frequently Asked Questions
How does delivery, returns and contact work?
UK delivery is free on orders over £50, with a flat rate below that. Orders ship within one working day from our Cotswolds workshop, packed in recyclable materials. Returns are accepted within 30 days for a full refund, with no restocking fees. If something arrived damaged or you need help choosing, email hello@backyardbliss.co.uk and we usually reply within a few hours.
How big are the two pieces in this size tier?
The XXL Balinese Buddha Statue stands a full metre tall and weighs around forty kilos. It is a two-person lift and asks for a proper load-bearing base. The Extra Large Buddha Head measures 60cm, roughly two feet, lighter to position and easier to reposition as the planting around it settles. Between them they cover the knee-to-shoulder scale tier.
Where does a mid-scale Buddha sit best in a British garden?
The 60cm head reads well on a low plinth, a flat-topped boulder, or low planting at the turn of a gravel path. The metre-tall XXL wants a paving slab or a poured concrete pad. Both benefit from a sheltered backdrop (a tree fern, hakonechloa, a small acer) rather than open sky. Centre-lawn is the spot to avoid, the scale needs something to frame it.
Will the cast stone survive repeated British frost?
Yes. Reconstituted cast stone is cement blended with crushed stone, bound with anti-crack chemicals and cured to a durable finish. The porous surface accepts freeze and thaw cycles without surface cracking. A soft lichen patina settles in over the first two wet autumns. Neither piece needs to come indoors for winter.
How does the patina develop over time?
Slowly and softly. The soft mid-grey of fresh cast stone deepens through the first two wet autumns as moss and lichen settle into the micro-texture of the surface. Most owners prefer the patina to the straight-from-mould finish; by the third winter the piece reads settled rather than freshly placed. A soft brush once a year keeps the face clear without disturbing the moss elsewhere.
How does the XXL get delivered, and what about access?
The XXL Balinese ships on a pallet rather than as a standard parcel. We are in touch before dispatch to agree a delivery date and confirm a drop spot. Two adults with a sack trolley can move it down a side return around 70cm wide or more. Shoulder clearance is the limit. For tighter access a garden trolley with pneumatic wheels handles gravel and steps better.
Can I leave the cast stone out all year, or should I cover it?
Leave it out. Reconstituted cast stone is frost-tolerant out of the box and does not need sealing or covering. A cover would trap moisture against the surface and hold back the lichen patina you want to settle in. The only seasonal care is a soft brush over the face once a year.
